A humanitarian professional with 12 years of experience in human trafficking, human smuggling, migration and child protection, Swagata started her career as a journalist in the year 2007, covering mostly crime and politics. But her desire to intervene directly for alleviating the human suffering arising from societal crisis led her to enter the development sector in 2009. Her job responsibilities involve direct intervention with the victims of trafficking, smuggling and juveniles who are either in need for care and protection or are in conflict with the law. In her career, she has acquired excellent skills for having direct communication with informers, victims and perpetrators; networking with the law enforcement agencies, judiciary and government departments; and planning and carrying out raid and rescue operations. She has been a well-recognized resource person for the training and capacity building of Border Security Force, Police, Judiciary at the academies, Government officials, Civil Society Organizations, and Para-legal Volunteers in the eastern part of India. She has also dealt with multi-state and transnational cases in the South Asian continent.
